Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)- Couples Therapy

The therapy model is based on the rapidly evolving scientific insights about relationships and attachment.

Message of EFT
From the book of Sue Johnson (Hold me tight, 2008):
“The message of EFT is simple: do not start to learn how to debate, analyze your early childhood, make big romantic gestures, or experiment with new sexual positions. You better recognize and admit that you are emotionally attached to and dependent on your partner, just as a child depends on his parents for nurturing, comfort and protection ….
EFT focuses on forging and strengthening the emotional bond between partners by identifying and transforming key moments: being open and receptive to each other and tuned in to each other. ”
The phases of EFT therapy:
• In phase 1 you learn to recognize and acknowledge the negative interaction patterns within your relationship.
• In phase 2 you get to know your own feelings and needs beneath the surface and you learn to express them in a safe atmosphere.
• Phase 3 is about preventing those old negative patterns to occur in the future and about creating an even deeper connection.
The relationship may in the course of the process become a safe haven and a healing environment for both partners.
